a bachelor of science in forestry (bscf) is about trees, plants, water, and wildlife management – the atmosphere, soils, and landscapes. it’s about people’s beliefs and values. it’s about the economy and about spirit. bscf is about managing all these in sustainable ways. it’s about solving complex problems for the benefit of current and future generations.

the bscf program at unb is one of the oldest in canada and has been offered for more than 100 years. there is a deep history in producing graduates who are much sought after in the industry, and many have gone on to become leaders in the field. this is the only english faculty of forestry in atlantic canada.

hands-on learning
  • students will learn outdoors in the university’s forests, including the 1,500-hectare university forest near the fredericton campus. students will also collaborate on projects with the scientists and managers at the nearby atlantic forestry research centre and at the headquarters of the new brunswick department of natural resources.
skills students will acquire
  • highly-developed calculation and computing skills
  • gis/gps technology skills
  • registered professional forester designation
  • know how the forest should be harvested and replanted in ways that sustain its resources and protect wildlife
  • use management strategies on the forest ecosystem
  • manage the flow of goods and services from the forest while still protecting it
