learning the french language provides a wealth of opportunities for a student's future career and ignites a passion for culture, creativity, and expression. the department of french welcomes students who wish to learn and perfect the language as well as pursue their studies in literature and linguistics.

a range of courses is offered in french canadian literature, cinema, and culture, with an emphasis on acadian and québécois writers, as well as other francophone literatures (i.e. france, belgium, etc.).

linguistics courses explore the various expressions across french canada. the phenomenon of human communication is emphasized and how language shapes experience.
