graduates will develop their japanese language skills and their historical knowledge alongside history modules which complement their japanese studies and cover various political, social and cultural themes. they will also spend part of their degree studying in japan, immersing themselves in japanese society.
students will develop the skills to exercise independent judgement engaging with real research throughout their studies, be critical of accepted opinions, and to construct effective arguments.
graduates will study on one of the uk’s longest running japanese studies program, with over 60 years of experience creating leaders within the field. the university of sheffield's award-winning teaching staff will give them the insights, language skills and disciplinary knowledge to critically appreciate japanese society, history, politics and culture, as well as studying the phonetic scripts (kana), picking up the 2000 sino-japanese characters (kanji).
