Progression Summary

there is a strong focus on engineering design and modelling throughout integrated masters in mechanical engineering, which gives candidates plenty of opportunities to apply their theoretical knowledge to practical engineering problems.

in the first two years graduates will study the core subjects they need to be a successful mechanical engineer, including mathematics, fluids, dynamics, thermodynamics and the mechanical behavior of materials. the university of sheffield will embed that knowledge by applying it to open-ended projects, typical of the engineering industry.

the second half of the degree is about honing in on those areas students find most fascinating, choosing from a wide selection of engineering modules to reflect their interests and career aspirations. in their third year they will take part in the group design project where they will take on a real-life challenge proposed by our industrial partners, developing professional skills with real clients.
