students will complement engineering skills in computer software and hardware with a deep understanding of systems design. they will also use industry-standard equipment to learn about state-of-the-art applications in infrastructure, medicine and aviation.

the first year gives graduates solid grounding in theory, with a focus on how to control robotic systems, and opportunities to design and analyze complex electro-mechanical systems as part of a team.

in the second year, core modules such as programming (including c++, python and java), mathematics and data modelling lead into a practical project and building students designs in the university of sheffield's iforge makerspace. in the year three they will see combining specialist modules, like intelligent systems and cybersecurity, with a massive range of optional modules, chosen according to their personal passion and career aspirations.
