students will graduate with a deeper understanding of the complexities of sustainable development, including the influences of economic, political and regulatory factors. in their final term, students will undertake a graduate project in industrial ecology.

this is a project-based program; there is no thesis.

graduates with an meng in industrial ecology will be able to:

  • assemble and compute energy and material flows in an industrial society over a range of scales
  • frame, develop and apply systems approaches for determining the environmental and economic impacts of infrastructure
  • plan and analyze systems for material reuse and recycling
  • demonstrate understanding of the scientific basis of environmental impacts of human activities
  • explain how the methods and tools of industrial ecology can be applied in business, economic and public policy contexts
