the ba in american studies focuses on the interdisciplinary study of american culture. through their coursework and independent projects, majors acquire strong analytic and writing skills and explore the intellectual, social, and material cultures of the united states, the diverse experiences of americans, and the relationship between the united states and the rest of the world. this unique major offers students the opportunity to make connections between diverse fields and subjects, a capacity for self-direction, and the ability to apply their skills to a variety of contemporary professional fields including: government, economics, social work, education, journalism, business, psychology, law, digital and print media, non-profit work, theater and the arts. a small program, the american studies major features a close-knit community of students and hands-on, individualized advising by the director of the program.
