Progression Summary

the hospitality and tourism management major is focused on experiential learning, where theory is applied to real-world situations. students will be able to create their own independent study course, study in another country while on a semester exchange, and attend numerous networking events with industry leaders.

the hospitality and tourism management major prepares students to assume positions of responsibility within the world’s largest industry. in the first two years of study, students are introduced to foundational business skills and knowledge; and provided with an in-depth overview of the industry’s three sectors: hotel and lodging; restaurant and foodservice; and tourism. by the end of the second year, students must choose one of those sectors as their area of emphasis. for the remainder of the program, the courses and learning opportunities that students encounter have one goal: to help them cultivate the knowledge, skills and understanding required of a managerial leader in their chosen area.

students will be exposed to the latest principles and practices of hotel operations; food services; and tourism policy, planning and development. those who successfully complete the program will graduate with a bachelor of commerce degree, expanding their career possibilities even further by giving them a foundation of transferable business skills in human resources, marketing, accounting and finance.
