all engineering students will complete a common first year, meaning all students take the same courses allowing them to experience various disciplines of engineering before deciding on an area of specialization. after completing the common first year, students will enroll in one of nine programs. during the common first year, students will solve real engineering problems. they will be provided with the fundamentals needed for success in upper years, while exploring various engineering disciplines.

after completing western engineering’s common first year, students can enroll in the mechatronic systems engineering program. throughout the program, they take core courses in electrical and computer engineering (including basic circuit theory, computer design, software design, embedded computing and control systems) as well as core courses in mechanical and materials engineering (including dynamics, material properties, machine design, and thermodynamics).

note: please note the english scores listed are minimum requirements. meeting the minimums does not guarantee admission. students with low english scores may be admitted to the english boost program, a 9 week training program for conditional admission to their chosen program.
