our unique world philosophies degree offers you the chance to engage with a diverse range of philosophical traditions from asia, africa, the middle east, and europe. this course will expand your knowledge and develop your critical understanding of philosophy in the context of a wider range of societies and historical eras than a traditional philosophy degree. you will investigate the origin, nature, methods, and limits of human knowledge; traditions of argumentation; as well as political and ethical systems of thought from a truly global perspective. this combined degree also gives you a solid grounding in modern standard and classical arabic, as well as conversational ability in egyptian colloquial arabic. intensive study of a wide range of arabic language and literature is a compulsory feature of the programme. you will spend a year of study at a university in the middle east or on an equivalent programme elsewhere.
