the foundation year of the four-year programme aims to provide understanding of the key subjects in nursing to meet the prerequisites for study on the associated degree programme. the key areas of study will be effective communication and study skills combined with key subjects in nursing. you will be introduced to basic theories and concepts within the disciplines to provide a basic knowledge in all related subject areas. this will be achieved by providing modules on nursing care and theoretical studies to explore the multiple facets of the care related to nursing practice these being adult, mental health, learning disabilities and child care. it will introduce and review the concepts underpinning health, illness and the life continuum related to physical and psychological illness and will introduce the concept of evidence based practice and focus on reflective practice. following completion of the foundation year, you will progress on to year one of your selected degree for the remainder three years of your course.
