Progression Summary

you will learn directly from world-leading artists and scholars who are active creators and researchers. you will collaborate with international visitors in workshops and masterclasses. you will receive training in fundamental research skills, culminating in a major project in creative practice or scholarly research. you will refine and develop a topic of your choice in close consultation with an individual supervisor. topics include notated and digital music, sound arts, interdisciplinary practices; classical, jazz, and popular performance and improvisation; historical musicology, ethnomusicology, music analysis, and sound studies. you may get involved in our research centre sparc (sound practice and research at city st george's), our world-leading sparc lab for immersive sound and movement, and our ground-breaking record label multi.modal. award you can select to apply for one of the available exit points for this course. master of arts (ma) who is this course for? if you aim to work professionally in music or advance to a research degree, our programme gives you ideal preparation. you may have already studied music or a related subject anywhere in the world or be at any stage of your career.

ielts academic: an overall ielts score of 6.0 with no component score below 5.5 toefl test with a score of at least 80, with a minimum of 17 in listening, 18 in reading, 17 in writing and 20 in speaking.

applicant should hold (or expect to gain) an honours degree (2:1) from a uk university, or an equivalent qualification, or be able to demonstrate comparable professional experience a creative portfolio must be supplied for those intending to focus on compositional or creative work we consider applicants with an honour’s degree in music, or related subjects if they can demonstrate musical expertise and experience as well as new graduates, we also welcome mature applicants with work experience related to music research, or those who wish to work professionally in music or advance to a higher research degree.
