this is a course primarily focused on getting you a job in the industry. you will meet and receive advice from leading journalists in various fields and have access to city’s outstanding alumni network. recent graduates have gone on to work in publications as varied as sunday times culture, the economist, cosmopolitan, time out, vice, stylist and the independent, as well as hosting hit podcasts and writing bestsellers. this programme covers everything from writing news stories, longform features and reviews to producing profile pieces and multimedia content. you will also leave the course with skills in magazine design, subbing, law and digital publishing. part of the course will involve creating and launching a new website brand, as well as producing city’s 160-page print alumni magazine. accreditation logo block: ppa accredited logo this degree is accredited by the professional publishers association (ppa), which represents the magazine industry. it was reaccredited in 2024. the magazine ma has been described by the ppa panel as "a phenomenal course". award you can select to apply for one of the available exit points for this course. master of arts (ma) who is this course for? you will have a real enthusiasm for magazine journalism across print and digital platforms and a passion for great writing. you should be full of ideas, love storytelling and keen to learn new skills - from designing layouts and launching your own media products, to video and podcasting. this is an intensive course so you need to be prepared to work hard – but it’s great fun!
