Progression Summary

you will develop skills in text, broadcast and online journalism and learn how they function in a global context. our programme enables you to study news in all its forms and grow your understanding of international journalism from a uk perspective. while you will practise in different media of journalism (text, broadcast and online), you will additionally explore journalism theories and concepts and reflect on your work. you also explore the contemporary global domain of journalism. you will learn from working with people from the uk, europe and beyond and benefit from our location in london, a global media city. the course enables you either to start a career in journalism, or to undertake continuing professional development. it is suitable, therefore, for those with the required academic qualifications but without any prior experience in journalism, and, more exceptionally, for those with appropriate experience in journalism but who do not hold the required academic qualifications. graduates from the course overwhelmingly enter the workplace although some go on to further study. award you can select to apply for one of the available exit points for this course. master of arts (ma) who is this course for? if you have a good first degree, a strong interest in the way international news is reported and have an interest in reporting on global issues, you will be well suited to this programme. we combine a strong emphasis on journalistic practice with rigorous intellectual discussion of the current trends in journalism globally.

ielts academic test with an overall score of 7.0, with no less than 7.0 in the writing subtest and no less than 6.5 in any other subtest. toefl test with a score of at least 100, with a minimum of 21 in listening, 23 in reading, 24 in writing and 23 in speaking.

you should hold an upper second class honours degree or the equivalent from an internationally recognised institution. you must be able to demonstrate a hunger to be a journalist through relevant work experience. this may be paid work, an internship, student journalism in an academic institution, freelance work, or a combination of these.
