program description

students who have a wide variety of interests, honours arts gives them the freedom to explore it.

in the university of waterloo's largest and most flexible first-year program, students will use their first two terms to test the waters. sample courses from the humanities, social sciences, fine and performing arts, and languages and cultures. students can discover subjects they weren’t exposed to in high school, or delve deeper into their favourite subject at the university level.

honours arts will give students the critical thinking skills to analyze issues, make persuasive arguments, write well, and speak with conviction — skills that will serve them well along any career path.

in this program students will have the opportunity to find out how peace is built in complicated situations around the world by connecting theory and practice.

 

students will choose courses from a wide variety of subjects to tailor their program towards their own area of interest. they will experience community through small classes and engaged professors. students will explore the theory and practice of conflict resolution, human rights, and international development, and get some first-hand experience through co-op placements or a peace and conflict studies internship.

 

students will understand the factors that drive conflict and violence. they will think critically about how peace can be built in complex situations to move towards a healthy society where communities and individuals flourish.
