students who have a wide variety of interests, honours arts gives them the freedom to explore it.
in the university of waterloo's largest and most flexible first-year program, students will use their first two terms to test the waters. sample courses from the humanities, social sciences, fine and performing arts, and languages and cultures. students can discover subjects they weren’t exposed to in high school, or delve deeper into their favourite subject at the university level.
honours arts will give students the critical thinking skills to analyze issues, make persuasive arguments, write well, and speak with conviction — skills that will serve them well along any career path.
students will explore theatre and performance in one of canada’s most creative drama programs. they will go beyond art history books and collaborate with professors, visiting artists, and other students to make high quality work that contributes to a just society. students will learn by doing, covering performance to management, design to critical studies, and creation to technology.
in the classroom, courses in performance, production, design, direction, and management will give students the technical tools to excel at their craft. meanwhile, complementary courses in politics, race, gender, theory, technology, and aesthetics will help them decide what messages matter. students can apply their knowledge to co-op placements too.
by the time students graduate, they will have a rich portfolio to take into the world of theatre, plus a range of creative, analytical, and management skills that will serve them well in any number of roles, on stage or off.
