Progression Summary

Architectural visuals are an essential part of the architectural design process. Visualisations are regularly used to convey design ideas when presenting work to clients, submitting planning applications or taking part in competitions. Clients, contractors, architects, architectural technologists, and design teams are all in need of well-trained professionals to produce accurate and high-quality visualisations. To help you to fill this industry need, Solent’s new architectural design and visualisation programme explores two connected areas of architecture: concept design - as a creative process - and visualisation - as the means of turning concepts into photorealistic images. The design curriculum will help you to grasp the fundamentals of architectural design and covers essential principles of design process; aesthetics; architectural composition; scale; proportions; space planning and history. Visualisation units explore various methods of visualisation including freehand drawing, physical model making, computer generated imagery (CGI), computer modelling and 3D walkthroughs. This course is unique in its approach - specialist architectural visualisation courses are not currently available at undergraduate level anywhere else in the UK. It is also unique in its inclusion of architectural design study alongside visualisation training. This knowledge of design processes will help you to play an active role in design teams in addition to leading visualisation projects. You’ll also benefit from the teaching team’s extensive industry links. These links have been built over many years of delivering courses accredited by professional organisations (e.g. CIAT, CIOB, SBID and CABE). Practitioners from a cross-section of the built environment industry regularly contribute to the academic process by providing real-world projects, guest lectures, mentoring sessions and site visits.
