**BA (Hons) Adventure and Outdoor Management scored 100% overall satisfaction for NSS 2019.** This two year accelerated degree covers a wide range of subjects including outdoor learning, coaching, leadership, facilitation, adventure recreation, tourism and extreme sports. You will undertake two 12 week placements placements to develop learning, skills, knowledge and experience in a live industry setting. You’ll also be able to diversify further into other contemporary industry trends such as nature and holistic therapies, technological innovations, wildlife, environment, sustainability and conservation and retail management. This is all underpinned by management skills and knowledge delivered through a combination of academic, professional, operational and placement experience. The taught curriculum was constructed with vital transferable management skills in mind. Whether it be finance, human resources, business, marketing or operations, this course aims to equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in future managerial roles and to provide longevity in career potential. A range of adventure, outdoor and management related topics will give you a broad theoretical knowledge of the industry whilst the uniqueness of two summer placement opportunities (one in the summer of the first year and one in the summer of the second year) will allow you to apply theory to professional, operational practice and with further blended learning assessment strategies. These mandatory placements are a minimum of 12 weeks per year (paid or unpaid) and encourage the development of real-world skills in a ‘live’ industry setting. Solent’s close partnerships with a range of adventure and outdoor industries give students access to a wide range of organisations in the public, private and voluntary sector, support will be provided to help secure appropriate placements. There is also flexibility in placement opportunities including opportunities abroad, which is ideal if you’re considering employment overseas at the end of your degree. For students wishing to develop their practical outdoor coaching and related national governing body (NGB) and associated qualifications, guidance will be provided on how to pursue these as part of your work placements as well as engagement with Solent's outdoor clubs. Further access to exclusive discounts in a range of water and land-based NGBs are also available. These are optional and offered outside of the course programme as part of extracurricular enrichment activities in partnership with our local outdoor centres. Easy access to the coast and the New Forest makes Southampton a prime location for water sports and outdoor activities, while Solent’s 30 years of experience in outdoor leisure makes it the ideal choice if you’re considering a career in this diverse and exciting industry. **What does this course lead to?** The adventure and outdoor industries are extraordinarily broad, giving you a chance to combine the activities you love with a lucrative career within two years. This two year option builds strong relationships with employers and will give you more opportunities for operational experiences. You'll even have the chance to access national governing body qualifications. You’ll be well placed to find a management role at an existing company in this fast-growing, exciting industry; or if you’re interested in starting your own business Solent provides extensive support and advice for student and graduate entrepreneurs. Graduates have also progressed into teaching careers at primary, secondary schools and further education colleges. This course is ideally suited if you’re interested in future management careers within the adventure, outdoor tourism and leisure sectors. Embedded business management studies ensure that students who aspire to progress into management and professional support roles and or wish to set up their own business, are suitably prepared.
