Adult Social Care Level 6 (Top-up) Degree - BA (Hons)
Progression Summary
The BA (Hons) Adult Social Care (Level 6 top-up) degree is a one-year full time programme of study, and has been developed to equip you with the knowledge and skills that are needed in today’s care workforce. We have worked closely with employers and key stakeholders to ensure the subjects covered within this top-up degree programme align with key priorities within the Adult Social Care sector. This programme provides a progression for those students who wish to top-up their Foundation Degree or equivalent Level 5 qualification, to a Bachelor of Arts (with Honours) degree. Entry Requirements: ● A Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care or other Level 5 qualification in a relevant subject, for example an HND in Health and Social Care. ● Be employed or doing voluntary work in a Health and Social Care setting for a minimum of 12 hours per week is essential. ● Have the support of their employer or voluntary setting (unless self-employed). ● A satisfactory enhanced DBS check. ● Access to a PC is required to complete coursework. This one day a week programme is characterised by its vocational focus and provides an important grounding in social science perspectives, to inform your practice as a health and social care professional. In addition to subject specific knowledge you will develop skills in critical thinking and analysis, problem solving, presentation skills, and direct work with individuals and groups. The programme is relevant for both experienced practitioners and those who are contemplating a career in Adult Social Care. Your course will include psychological, historical, cultural, sociological, socio-political and philosophical viewpoints, delivered through a combination of taught sessions and employer-supported work-based learning, giving you an ideal combination of learning methods. The top up year contains a range of core and optional modules focusing on more complex work with adults. In addition you will complete an independent research project on a topic of your choice, this will allow you to draw from your growing theoretical knowledge and complete empirical research supported by a supervisor. The degree equips graduates to explore a range of careers in the health and social sector, as well as completing postgraduate qualifications, in order to work within the fields of health, social care, education and social work. Our campus has a range of modern facilities to enhance students learning experience including music recording studios, gym facilities, a nursery, to our own working restaurant and beauty salon and much more. There are frequent buses from the surrounding areas and local train stations in Havant and Cosham. Located off Junction 4 of the A3(M), the College has extensive free onsite parking.
