Progression Summary

The Certificate of HE Acting is an exciting and enriching one-year programme born from our incredibly successful degree in Acting. The new course provides a versatile curriculum which facilitates study and practice in performance related disciplines equipping students with the necessary knowledge and skills to enter the performing arts industry or progress to the next level of a BA Hons Degree either at Blackpool School of Arts or at another institution. This is a higher-level qualification which incorporates technical training and practical elements and is essential practice in a range of performance roles that do not require a full degree. Completing a Certificate of HE will demonstrate individuals’ capability of studying at university level, raise their confidence, support a career change, or progression in their current career. This newly validated course which runs from September 2022 incorporates within each module a specific emphasis on practical performance technique which provides the essential platform of skills, knowledge and experience for anyone wishing to embark on a career in the performing arts sector. This is particularly relevant to Blackpool’s thriving performance based attraction industry which values level 4 skills as well as those associated with level 6. Students will have access to a unique creative environment with contemporary studios, think spaces, a stunning public gallery and our working theatre. Our studios are equipped with the latest technology and are beautifully presented, providing a spacious and inspiring environment in which to work. The Cert of HE will draw from the existing performance degrees’ relationship with significantly established local employers providing a rich plethora of extra-curricular opportunities to enhance their studies. Class sizes are normally small and again this is very beneficial, affording the opportunity for a tailored personal learning situation with plenty of help and support. Many of our alumni have successful careers, working across Performing Arts industry, from roles as performers on London’s West End and performing internationally, as emerging and successful theatre makers, as Agents etc. these regularly visit to meet our students, offering career advice and support with the transition into their chosen industry. It is the aim of the programme to provide a transformational learning experience which equips students with the competencies and skills necessary for positive future growth and the potential for a lifelong career in the performing arts sector.
