Anthropology/International Relations

Oxford Brookes University

Progression Summary

This is a joint honours course, where you study Anthropology alongside International Relations. Brookes is distinctive among UK universities in teaching biological and social anthropology in tandem. Biological anthropology explores our evolutionary history, our response to environmental challenges and our relationship to the other primates, while social anthropology helps you to appreciate and respect the customs and beliefs of other societies. Brookes is home to the Anthropology Centre for Conservation, Environment and Development, and the Europe-Japan Research Centre, while other resources include the world-renowned Pitt Rivers Museum of Anthropology and World Archaeology just a mile away. An Anthropology society is also led by students. International Relations studies world affairs and examines some of the critical issues of modern and contemporary times, such as the changing nature of international co-operation and conflict; the impact of globalisation on states and societies; and the persistence of world problems such as poverty, human rights and global environmental degradation. Our Centre for Global Politics, Economy, and Society has three research groups in Critical International Studies, European Politics and Society, and Social and Political Change. Teaching staff are active researchers with strong publication records.
