Progression Summary

Students on this programme will gain a well-grounded understanding of the science and management of sustainable animal and crop production systems, and be able to apply this to real-life situations. They will understand the socio-economic influences on consumer markets, and the complexities of managing a business within a constantly changing framework. The Agriculture department is located in the heart of the farm, with direct access to the award winning dairy, sheep and pig units, along with its own dedicated teaching spaces. A three million pound investment ensures it meets the latest industry standards and has sector leading facilities. Commercial trial work is carried out on the livestock units in association with industry bodies such as AHDB and various machinery manufacturers. The course features: - The 272 hectare college farm houses the Reaseheath Holsteins herd of 260 pedigree Holsteins, plus young stock. - A commerical flock of 500 North Country Mule breeding ewes and 120 breeding sows hosed in a high welfare commercial pig unit. - World class industry standard teaching facilities. - The cropping includes grass silage, maize silage, lucerne, wheat and barley. - 32/32 rapid exit milking parlour. - Anaerobic digester.
