Progression Summary
This programme of study will give you an overview and in depth look at Aeronautical Engineering and how an aircraft can fly. The HNC programme comprises of eight units of which four are compulsory and one is a specialist Aeronautical Engineering unit. The remaining three aeronautical units are all about aircraft systems and how an aircraft maintains safe flight. As with all engineering, you will need to study higher level mathematics as well as Engineering Science along with Engineering Design and Management of Projects. What you learn in these units is then applied to your remaining units. The course is taught by well qualified and industry experienced lectures who are dedicated to ensuring student success through effective curriculum delivery and high-quality pastoral support. The team includes staff with relevant industrial and Aeronautical Engineering expertise. This course is appropriate both for those wishing to continue their education through applied learning, as well as offering career progression and professional development for those already in employment. This course is offered on a full-time or part-time basis. The part-time course is taught over one day per week and takes approximately 18 months to complete. The full-time course is taught over two days per week and takes one year to complete. **Work Experience and Placement** There is no requirement for work experience or a work placement within an Engineering company. **After the Course** If you successfully achieve your programme of study, you will be awarded a Pearson Higher National Certificate (Level 4) in Aeronautical Engineering after which there are a number of options open to you. Firstly, you could progress to the next level of academic study to HND. If you wish to study for an HND in Aeronautical Engineering, you will need to successfully complete an HNC first as your HND unit build on the knowledge gained in your HNC. You need to complete seven units at level 5 to be awarded an HND, plus, your successful achievement of your HNC at level 4. If you have successfully completed an HND then you could apply to complete a full BEng Honours degree. Your second option would be to seek employment with an engineering company.
