Adult nursing is a person-centred profession with the primary aim of promoting the wellbeing and social inclusion of all people through improving or maintaining physical and mental health (Department of Health, 2010). Adult nurses provide care for people over the age of 18 and increasingly for older people with complex conditions. They may also care for people with a mental health condition or a learning disability or for children and their families. Adult nurses work in a range of settings including A&E, critical care, medical and surgical wards, rehabilitation units, GP practices, healthcare centres, hospices and in people's own homes.
