Foundation Biology + Chemistry
Program Summary
Module group of: Health, Life & Biosciences Pathway By studying biology and chemistry together, you’ll gain a more complete understanding of yourself and the world around you. While biology focuses on living organisms, chemistry looks at matter and how it changes. These disciplines might seem totally disparate at first glance, but they complement each other well; biology will teach you about things like the cell cycle, cellular respiration, nervous coordination, microbiology and much more, while chemistry will cover topics such as atomic structure, periodicity, analytical techniques, acids and bases, and beyond. This combination of knowledge is particularly important if you want to pursue a health-related career, such as a doctor, pharmacist, neuroscientist or molecular geneticist. If you choose to study biology and chemistry, you’ll focus your learning on two scientific disciplines and strengthen your skills in observation, hypothesis generation, testing, and more. You’ll also become eligible to apply for a range of health degrees, including Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Biomedical Science and Neuroscience. You will study a total of four modules and you will be allocated either one of English for Scientific Academic Purposes or Academic Expression & Critical Thinking plus the Society module. Take a look at the Biology module and Chemistry module to see more details about what you will learn from each foundation module, and view the full list of relevant undergraduate degrees on the degree eligibility tab below.
