Foundation Biology
Program Summary
Module group of: STEM & Natural Sciences Pathway If you choose to study the Biology module, you'll get an in-depth introduction to the biology topics you need to explore this subject at university level. You'll cover topics such as biological molecules, homeostasis in the human body, energy and exercise, cellular respiration, nervous coordination and integration, the cell cycle, molecular biology and microbiology. But because this is part of the STEM & Natural Sciences Pathway, you'll also study a core Mathematics for Natural Sciences module. By choosing to combine biology and mathematics, you'll improve your ability to organise and analyse data in a robust way. You'll begin to build a combination of knowledge that's beneficial for a range of careers that involve working with biological data — for example, in biostatistics, bioinformatics, population ecology and epidemiology. Choosing biology for your optional module means you’ll be eligible to apply for degrees like Biomedical Engineering, Natural Sciences, Neuroscience & Psychology, Psychology & Criminology, and Sport & Exercise Medical Sciences. You will study a total of four modules: Mathematics for Natural Sciences, Science & Society and you will be allocated either one of English for Scientific Academic Purposes or Academic Expression & Critical Thinking as listed in the 'Teaching & structure' tab on the STEM & Natural Sciences pathway page. Take a look at the Biology module and Mathematics for Natural Sciences module to see more details about what you will learn from each foundation module, and view the full list of recommended and eligible undergraduate degrees on the tabs below.
