Foundation Computer Science
Program Summary
Module group of: STEM & Natural Sciences Pathway When you choose to study the Computer Science module, you'll receive excellent preparation for an undergraduate degree in this subject. You'll learn about general-purpose programming from lectures and lab-based lessons. There's an emphasis on problem-based learning and looking at the process of developing solutions from design to implementation and evaluation. And because this is part of the STEM & Natural Sciences Pathway, you'll also study a core Mathematics module alongside your Computer Science one. This is particularly beneficial because all Computer Science degrees at King’s require a good level of maths to ensure that students can succeed in their chosen degree. Combining these two modules means you'll acquire the academic content for a selection of degrees, develop your problem-solving skills and spend time in our informatics labs working with equipment and on projects to establish strong foundations for undergraduate study. There are a number of careers that require this blend of subject knowledge including as a software engineer, software architect, developer and more. It's a great module choice for anyone interested in future careers or studies in areas like cybersecurity, AI and big data. In fact, if you choose to study computer science and mathematics together, you’ll be eligible to apply for degrees in Maths, Computer Science, AI, Biomedical Engineering and more. You will study a total of four modules: Mathematics for Natural Sciences, Science & Society and you will be allocated either one of English for Scientific Academic Purposes or Academic Expression & Critical Thinking as listed in the 'Teaching & structure' tab on the STEM & Natural Sciences pathway page. Take a look at the Computer Science module and Mathematics for Natural Sciences module to see more details about what you will learn from each foundation module, and view the full list of recommended and eligible undergraduate degrees on the tabs below.
