Foundation Social Sciences + Mathematics for Business & Economics

King's College London, University of London
Provided by: King’s College London

Program Summary

It might seem like social sciences and mathematics are polar opposites, but studying this combination of modules can help you understand the world around you from very different points of view. For example, mathematics will strengthen your ability to spot patterns and quantify relationships, while social sciences will equip you with research skills and interdisciplinary training that encourages you to view things from multiple perspectives. Your Social Sciences module will explore a range of topics, from the minutiae of human behaviour and social identities to exploring large-scale social movements, institutions and politics. At the same time, your Mathematics for Business and Economics module will teach you about key concepts and how to apply them. You’ll look at things like basic algebra techniques, percentages and index numbers, rules of indices and probability, to name just a few. There are a number of careers that draw upon knowledge of mathematics and social sciences, and you might end up in roles such as an economist, a statistician, a data analyst, a market researcher and more. When you study mathematics for business and economics alongside social sciences, you’ll be eligible to apply for degrees in Mathematics with Statistics, Accounting and Finance, Economics, Business Management and Social Sciences. You will study a total of four modules and you will be allocated either one of English for Academic Purposes or Academic Expression and Critical Thinking plus the Business and Society module. Take a look at the Social Sciences module and Mathematics for Business and Economics module to see more details about what you will learn from each foundation module, and view the full list of relevant undergraduate degrees on the degree eligibility tab below.
