Foundation Liberal Arts + Social Sciences
Program Summary
The subjects of liberal arts and social sciences taken together will give you a much deeper understanding of these fields and you will progress to university study with a solid grounding in these disciplines. The Liberal Arts module will focus your learning on visual culture, film studies, literary studies and the history of ideas. In contrast, the Social Sciences module explores human behaviour while looking at how society works, identity, media, culture, social inequalities, and more. There are many careers that require a depth of understanding across the liberal arts and social sciences, offering a wide range of opportunities. For example, you could work in the Civil Service, advertising, the media, marketing, travel and tourism and the creative industries, to name just a few. If you take combined modules in liberal arts and social sciences, you’ll get an interdisciplinary education that will also develop your skills in analysis, presentation, critical thinking, collaboration, and beyond. You’ll also be eligible to apply for a wide variety of degrees in subjects like Modern Languages, Culture, Media & Creative Industries, Comparative Literature and Classics and the Ancient World. You will study a total of four modules and you will be allocated either one of English for Scientific Academic Purposes or Academic Expression & Critical Thinking plus the Society module.
