Foundation Maths for Business & Economics + Business Management
Program Summary
When you study business management, you’ll use your mathematical skills as you learn how to analyse financial reports. Likewise, when you learn about mathematics for business and economics, you’ll be taught various methods and techniques that will help you in real-world business scenarios. This includes how to use percentages and index numbers, work with data, plot a number of different graph types and more. You’ll also learn a lot that is specific to each subject. For example, your Business Management module will explore three major functional areas of business: marketing, human resource management and finance. As well as building your ability to scrutinise financial reports, you’ll explore the importance of entrepreneurship, the role of big business and corporate social responsibility, the impact of technological change and beyond. Your Mathematics for Business and Economics module will also teach you topics including algebra, linear equations, exponential functions and differentiation of compound functions, to name just a handful. There are a range of roles that blend mathematical skills with an understanding of business management. You might end up working as an actuary, a data scientist, a financial analyst, a statistician, an accountant, a computer programmer, or even using these transferable skills in a range of other fields. When you study business management and economics, you also become eligible to apply for degrees in Business Management, Data Analytics for Business and Finance, International Management, Politics and Political Economy. You will study a total of four modules and you will be allocated either one of English for Academic Purposes or Academic Expression & Critical Thinking plus the Society module.
